Assistant Public Affairs Manager, External Relations, London

Cheap, UK

JOB TYPE: Permanent, FullTime

**Your opportunity This is an excellent opportunity for you to play a ‘hands on’ role engaging with senior stakeholders in Deloitte’s External Relations team - where no two days are ever the same.** Operating within an environment where there is significant external scrutiny and challenge, you will offer a breadth of expertise and insight. With proven networking and presentation skills and a keen interest in business and economic policy issues, you will support Deloitte’s engagement with key political and policy stakeholders. You will serve as an ‘ambassador’ for the firm in engaging with these audiences, advise colleagues and senior business leaders and ensure the firm is able to both address the challenges it faces and make a positive contribution to political and policy debates. We encourage consideration of flexible ways of working, both formal and informal arrangements that allow for the best outcomes for our people and our clients. If this flexibility is of interest to you, please do discuss with us. **Are you looking to return to the workplace after an extended career break?** For this role we can offer coaching and support designed for returners to refresh your knowledge and skills, and help your transition back into the workplace after a career break of 2 years or more. If this is relevant for you, just let your recruiter know when you make your application. **Your role** As part of the External Relations team, and reporting to the Senior Public Affairs Manager, you’ll be responsible for identifying opportunities for Deloitte to engage with policymakers and stakeholders on issues of interest to the firm, develop new relationships and draw on existing ones. Your responsibilities will include:
• Working within Deloitte’s external relations team to drive and support the firm’s engagement with key external stakeholders, including government, Members of Parliament, officials and business bodies
• Advising senior internal stakeholders – up to executive level - on political, policymaking and communications issues
• Developing working relationships with external influencers and stakeholders in areas of interest to the firm
• Identifying and pursuing opportunities for Deloitte to engage on key issues and make a positive impact on policymaking
• Supporting Deloitte’s corporate campaigns and research by engaging relevant stakeholders
• Overseeing Deloitte responses to government consultations and Select Committee inquiries
• Supporting Deloitte’s wider communications activity, working alongside teams handling media relations, marketing, research and internal communications
• Working effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution. **Your work, your choice** At Deloitte we believe the best impact is the value we add, not the hours we sit at our desk. We carefully consider agile ways of working, both formal and informal, that allow for the best impact for our people and our clients. Please speak to your recruiter about the working pattern that works best for you. Location: For this role you will be based in our London office. Suggested work pattern: This is a permanent contract with the opportunity for regular homeworking. Our team members work a variety of agile working patterns. Tell us what arrangement works for you and we’ll try to accommodate. **Your professional experience**
• Experience in Government, Parliament or in-house or agency public affairs roles with an established network of contacts
• Familiarity with policymaking processes, Select Committee inquiries and government consultations
• Track record of developing and maintaining relationships with senior external stakeholders
• Strong awareness and understanding of the business, economic and political landscape for Deloitte and the wider economy
• Effective writing and presentation skills including the ability to produce clear and concise technical papers.
• Experience advising and influencing senior business leaders on political, policy and communications issues, being able to say no when needed
• Highly organised and able to successfully manage multiple stakeholders and projects under time pressure
• Ability to discern external relations opportunities and exercise robust judgement in managing reputational risk and advising on political, policy and communications matters
• A background in financial/professional services would be an advantage **Your service line: Internal Services ** At Deloitte, we’re all about collaboration. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints. This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm.
