Job Type: Contract, Full Time

System Design Engineer - HVDC - Floating Offshore Wind - Scotland, United Kingdom - Hybrid / Remote Working - Contract Position

Job Overview:

I'm working closely with a Floating Offshore Wind Developer who is delivering what will become one of the largest floating wind farms in the world off the coast of Scotland.

They're currently going through the consent process (EIA submitted earlier this year) and are now ramping up preparations for transmission and grid integration.

They are now looking to bring in an HVDC Consultant on a 3-6 month contract (potential for extension for the right candidate) to support key transmission activities.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead HVDC transmission system design at a system-wide level (not component-specific).

* Support the development and preparation of ITPs (Invitation to Participate) for HVDC scope.

* Ensure the project is fully prepared for the end of Q3 stage gate reviews, specifically from a transmission and budget readiness perspective.

* Provide strategic input into transmission planning, including potential engagement with TOs and international transmission partners.

* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure technical and commercial alignment.

* Contribute to future-proofing the HVDC strategy in anticipation of PRE-FEED launch in 2026.

Qualifications & Experience:

* Proven expertise in HVDC system-level design (ideally from a utility or TSO background).

* Experience working with or for TSOs such as National Grid, SSEN, ENTSO-E, or equivalent.

* Familiarity with transmission constraints, interface management, and offshore grid connections.

* Demonstrable track record supporting early-stage wind projects (concept through to design).

* Ability to work independently and drive delivery in a strategic yet hands-on capacity.

Contract Details:

* Contract Type: Freelance/Contract

* Duration: 3-6 month contract (potential for extension for the right candidate)

* Location: Remote/Hybrid - Scotland, United Kingdom

* Start Date: ASAP

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of an industry-leading project poised to redefine offshore energy.
