We now have an exciting opportunity for a knowledgeable and forward-thinking Energy Specialist - Decarbonisation. This role is perfect for someone passionate about sustainability, skilled in technical assessment, and motivated by the chance to shape the future of a national estate through low-carbon innovation.

About the Role

As a Decarbonisation Specialist, you will play a central role in driving NHSPS's transition to a low-carbon, energy-efficient estate. You will lead decarbonisation and energy-efficiency assessments across priority properties, identifying viable technologies and opportunities that reduce carbon emissions and improve energy performance. You'll provide expert technical guidance, ensuring low- and zero-carbon solutions are accurately assessed, operationally suitable, and integrated into future project plans. A key part of the role is completing technical surveys and recommending suitable initiatives to develop a robust pipeline of decarbonisation projects that supports NHSPS in meeting its long-term sustainability commitments. This is a unique opportunity to influence energy performance at scale, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the long-term resilience of the NHS estate.

Who You Are

You are a technically strong sustainability professional with deep knowledge of decarbonisation & renewable technologies and energy efficiency. You're confident translating complex technical requirements into clear, actionable recommendations and enjoy working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. You bring strong analytical skills, a solutions-focused mindset, and the ability to ensure technical standards and governance are consistently upheld. You're motivated by the challenge of delivering meaningful carbon reduction across a diverse national estate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct decarbonisation and energy-efficiency assessments across priority NHSPS properties, identifying viable technologies and improvement opportunities.
  • Produce clear, succinct, high-quality technical reports and recommendations that can be developed into deliverable projects.
  • Review project plans to ensure designs and specifications meet compliance, technical standards and operational requirements.
  • Advise on the feasibility, costs, benefits and enabling works associated with low- and zero-carbon technologies.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop practical, operationally sound decarbonisation solutions.
  • Ensure technical governance, standards and best practice are upheld throughout planning and implementation.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, processes and guidance that support consistent delivery of low-carbon systems.
  • Monitor risks, performance and progress, supporting reporting requirements and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported, investigated within agreed timeframes, and that responsible managers are supported and trained where required.

Where you'll be

This is a 24-month fixed-term, hybrid role, and we are recruiting for two positions:

  • North/Midlands
  • London/South
The salary for this role is £51,000 per annum, plus a car allowance and eligibility for a bonus.
