We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our independent specialist school, which provides high-quality, therapeutic, and child-centred education for pupils aged 11 to 17 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of our students also have additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and making a meaningful difference in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-class support to teachers and work directly with pupils, either individually or in small groups.
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of engaging activities, such as science experiments, creative projects, and classroom displays.
  • Participate in, and occasionally lead, therapeutic sessions to help pupils reflect and develop emotional resilience.
  • Support pupils during school trips and in managing challenging behaviours, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to school life by bringing your own interests and ideas to enhance both academic and extracurricular activities.

Person Specification:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH and/or SEND is highly desirable.
  • A calm, resilient, and solution-focused approach to supporting pupils with complex needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain a professional, non-judgemental attitude.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.
