We are seeking a General Practice Surveyor to support our property services team. This role involves asset valuations, community asset transfer applications, community buildings review, and general estate management of the council's portfolio. The successful candidate will report to the Line Manager/Service Manager and be part of an energetic and forward-thinking Estates Team focused on developing and maximising the opportunities of Council assets.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide valuation, estates management, and surveying advice across all departments, promoting the corporate use of property assets.
  • Advise on lower-level property issues and contribute to projects at an appropriate level.
  • Support projects for the negotiation of the acquisition and disposal of all types of land and property assets and interests.
  • Assist in undertaking statutory valuations, subject to sign off and approval by an MRICS and Registered Status Valuer, to support the Council’s accountancy functions.
  • Act as the Council's property representative, providing advice and producing reports for Council representatives and clients.
  • Liaise with other Departments/Sections in all aspects of valuation, estates management, and surveying work.
  • Deal with enquiries from all departments on valuation, estate management, and surveying work.
  • Encourage clients to follow value for money practices and adopt new policies and procedures.
  • Provide full support and assistance to the Estates Manager and Principal Estates Surveyor as required, including attending meetings.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a programme of land and premises reviews to support the Council’s priorities.
  • Adhere to standard procedures, operational practices, and support in setting up revised working practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • NQF Level 6 qualification (e.g., Bachelor Degrees, Graduate Certificates and Diplomas) or NQF Level 5 qualification (e.g., Diplomas of HE and FE, foundation degrees and HNDs) with relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 18 months experience in a similar role, preferably within a public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of property valuation, estate management, and surveying.
  • Experience in managing projects, including performance management and reporting against targets.
  • Proficient in using a range of computer applications and ICT including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, internet, and email.
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills, capable of maintaining sensitive and confidential information.
