Reporting to the UK Managing Director, the Head of Airfreight Development role will be pivotal in the pursuit of new suppliers, management of carrier contracts and negotiations. The position will be interactive with both the Sales Team, the Commercial Support Team and branch operations teams to provide the best service options for customers and our network. The role requires a skilled and highly motivated approach in carrier negotiations – and internal agreements within our network – to provide support as a ‘trusted advisor’ to the business.

The scope of the role demands to :

• Procure and evaluate partners to deliver the most reliable and cost-effective solution.

• Provide pricing for the completion of proposals and tender requests.

• Monitor and track market news to share developments and information on our key areas of interest.

• Support operations with carrier appointment details after making sure adequate solutions are in place.

• Support the Sales team to understand the customer’s needs and identify key benefits to help win business.

• Complete all required reporting expeditiously and accurately.

• Support UK Sales in joint visits as a ‘trusted advisor’ if necessary, if appropriate.

• Ensure all personal KPI’s set are constantly achieved.

Principle Accountabilities

• Provide solutions for Airfreight services, primarily focused on IMPORT growth as first priority

• Ensure the correct and best options are provided for customers, both internal and external

• Build relationships with external and internal teams and Managers

• Build relationships with existing core carriers and identify benefits in new carrier opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must have the below experience and attributes :

• Ten years’ experience in the Airfreight arena; working for a carrier directly would be of benefit

• The ability to influence, negotiate and forge strong relationships with our key carrier partners

• The ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation and our varied customer base

• An articulate speaker and creative thinker with the ability to share their views succinctly and sensibly

• Strong and creative skills, especially involving technology, MS PowerPoint and Excel Essential
