Accounts Assistant / Legal Cashier
Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £27,000 - £34,000 (depending on experience)

My client has been providing trusted legal services nationwide for over 70 years. They are growing and looking for a full-time Experienced Accounts Assistant / Legal Cashier to join their friendly Accounts team in Portsmouth.

The Role:
You'll work in a busy, fast-paced environment supporting solicitors and their assistants with accounting tasks like:

* Answering accounting queries

* Helping prepare bills and balance statements

* Investigating balances

* Producing month-end and year-end accounts

* Submitting quarterly VAT returns

* Supporting the team when the Head of Department is away

You'll also work with Directors and external auditors and play a key role in the day-to-day finance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Use online banking (CHAPS, BACS, Faster Payments, transfers)

* Reconcile bank, credit card, and petty cash accounts

* Input financial data according to regulations

* Post bills and ensure VAT is correct

* Allocate payments

* Maintain ledgers and financial records

* Prepare financial reports for fee earners

* General admin like ordering stationery and handling post

Experience Needed:

* At least 3 years' experience in an Accounts role

* Good GCSEs including Maths and English

* A Levels in Accounting, Business, or Law (or similar)

* AAT or ACCA/ACA qualification preferred

* Confident using Excel and other Office tools

* Strong attention to detail

* Great communication and time-management skills

Job Details:

* Full-time, office-based (Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm)

* Up to 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays

* Bonus scheme available after 1 year

* Location: Portsmouth Head Office
