Job Title: Approved Electrician

Reports To: Electrical Supervisor / Site Manager / Contracts Manager

Job Purpose:

To carry out electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work on commercial systems in accordance with current regulations and safety standards. The Approved Electrician is responsible for ensuring compliance with BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), undertaking testing and certification, and mentoring junior electricians where required.

Key Responsibilities:

*

Carry out electrical installations and maintenance to current IET Wiring Regulations (BS7671).

*

Complete Inspection and Testing of electrical systems and provide appropriate certification (EIC, EICR, MEIWC).

*

Diagnose and repair electrical faults efficiently and safely.

*

Ensure all work is carried out to the highest quality and safety standards.

*

Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.

*

Supervise and support apprentices and less experienced electricians.

*

Liaise with clients, site managers, and other trades to ensure seamless project delivery.

*

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical legislation, standards, and best practices.

*

Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.

*

Complete work reports, risk assessments, and timesheets accurately and on time.

Qualifications:

*

Essential:

*

Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (or equivalent).

*

City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/2395 (Inspection and Testing).

*

Current BS7671 Wiring Regulations certificate 18th Edition

*

Desirable:

*

IPAF

*

ECS Gold Card or JIB Approved Electrician status.

Experience:

*

Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience post-qualification.

*

Proven track record of working in commercial, industrial, or residential environments.

*

Experience with Inspection & Testing and issuing certificates.

*

Experience mentoring or supervising junior electricians or apprentices.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong understanding of electrical systems, safety regulations, and technical specifications.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

*

Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.

*

Good communication and interpersonal skills.
