An ambitious and highly regarded secondary school in Aylesbury is seeking a creative and experienced Second in Design & Technology to join their outstanding DT department from September 2025. This is a brilliant opportunity for an enthusiastic D&T specialist ready to take on additional leadership responsibility within a forward-looking and supportive school environment.

Design & Technology Department
The DT department is a flagship faculty with superb facilities and a strong track record of achievement. It offers Product Design, Graphics, Engineering, and Food Technology from KS3 through to KS5. Students engage in real-world design challenges, competitions, and enrichment programmes, and the school enjoys excellent links with local industry and FE providers.

As Second in Department, you will work closely with the Head of DT to manage the curriculum, develop schemes of learning, and support staff within a thriving and forward-thinking team. You will have particular responsibility for one key strand—either Product Design, Engineering, or Food Technology—based on your specialism and experience.

Your Role

Support the Head of Department with planning, curriculum development, and resourcing

*

Lead on assessment strategies and data tracking within your strand

*

Mentor ECTs and contribute to high-quality CPD

*

Maintain high standards of teaching and learning through modelling and coaching

*

Support the delivery of GCSE and A-Level courses and help run design clubs, exhibitions, and trips

Ideal Candidate

*

QTS and a relevant DT or Engineering degree

*

Substantial experience delivering DT across multiple key stages

*

Experience in coordinating schemes of learning and assessment

*

Excellent workshop practice and understanding of health and safety

*

Ability to contribute to the wider co-curricular life of the school
