The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charity created in March 2017. We manage over 5,000 acres of diverse parkland, rare habitats and historic buildings and monuments in eight Royal Parks across London. These are Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park, The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park and Bushy Park.

We also manage other important public spaces including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our eight Royal Parks and other iconic green spaces are among the most visited attractions in the UK with tens of millions of visits every year.

We are now looking for an experienced and passionate Community Engagement Officer on a full-time basis, for a 12-month fixed term contract for maternity cover.

The Role

As a Community Engagement Officer, you will identify, engage and build relationships with underserved local communities to help them access, enjoy and participate more fully with the central parks.

Alongside a small and dedicated team, you'll help build a thorough understanding of the challenges local communities face by identifying gaps in provision and trialling solutions using a co-creative approach around nature, heritage and wellbeing.

You will become an integral part of our new Access and Engagement team, helping to roll out the new Access and Engagement Plan for the charity, delivering activities in the parks and support the recruitment of new volunteers.

Additionally, you will:

  • Contribute to our visitor research programme
  • Support access and sensory audits
  • Respond to community enquiries and signpost to relevant teams
  • Develop new resources to support access to the parks
  • Help monitor feedback and evaluate impact

About You

To be considered as a Community Engagement Officer, you will need:

  • Experience of successfully engaging London's underserved communities
  • Experience developing collaborative relationships with local organisations and services
  • Practical understanding of Health & Safety and safeguarding children, young people and adults
  • Ability to listen without judgment and communicate with empathy

This is an opportunity for an individual who has experience working with community groups at grassroots level and a passion for delivering solutions to improve access to the outdoors. You will play a vital role in ensuring everyone can enjoy and benefit from these biodiverse, historical, and beautiful spaces.
