Support people through mental health challenges and help shape better lives across our borough.

Support people through mental health challenges and help shape better lives across our borough.

In this vital role, you'll work directly with residents, offering care, guidance and crisis support that makes a real difference in their lives. Whether you're coordinating support plans or responding to urgent needs, your work will have a lasting impact on individuals, families and the wider community.

Working Style:

You'll be based in the Borough for 4 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.

What you'll be doing:

You'll work directly with adults experiencing mental health difficulties, supporting them through assessments, casework, safeguarding, and crisis response. From early interventions to long-term planning, you'll help people stay safe, supported, and connected to the right services.

You'll carry out Care Act and Carers' Assessments, review support plans, and manage safeguarding concerns - sometimes leading investigations as a Lead Enquiry Officer. You'll also contribute to preventative work and take part in team discussions, ward rounds, and multi-disciplinary reviews to share insight and shape care plans.

As part of a co-located team, you'll work closely with NHS professionals and local partners to plan discharges and respond to mental health emergencies. You'll also take your turn as Duty Social Worker, handling urgent requests and managing risk and crisis cases one day per week.

If you're AMHP-qualified, you'll take on additional responsibilities under the Mental Health Act - including attending assessments and acting independently in urgent, high-stakes situations. If you're not, you should be willing to undertake this qualification with us. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor, assess and support AMHP students or colleagues preparing for qualification.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification

What you'll bring

You're a registered Social Worker with Social Work England, with relevant qualifications and experience in adult mental health settings. You've worked with people facing a range of mental health challenges, including complex or enduring conditions, and you understand how to balance their rights, needs and risks.

You know the legislation inside out - including the Mental Health Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Children's Act - and you're confident applying it to real-life situations. You're calm under pressure, clear in your communication, and empathetic when it matters most.

You're comfortable working independently while also contributing to a supportive, team-oriented environment. You value supervision, seek feedback, and want to continue growing in your role. You treat every person with dignity and respect, taking a culturally sensitive, whole-person approach.

AMHP qualification is highly valued - but if you're not qualified yet and willing to train (with management approval), we'll support your journey.
